Honda Civic Hybrid: 2025 North American Car of the Year™

The all-new Honda Civic hybrid, the electrified version of America’s best-selling compact car, has earned the prestigious 2025 North American Car of the Year™ award. This marks a record-breaking fourth win for the Honda Civic, solidifying its position as the most honored nameplate in the award’s 30-plus-year history. This victory is the second for the 11th-generation Civic and the seventh overall for a Honda vehicle. Previous Honda winners include the Civic (2006, 2016, 2022, and 2025), the Ridgeline (2006 and 2017), and the Accord (2018).
The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year™ awards recognize excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, and value. Fifty professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, representing independent magazines, television, radio, newspapers, and online publications, judge the vehicles.

"We are honored to have leading automotive journalists select the Honda Civic hybrid as the 2025 North American Car of the Year™. Our fun-to-drive hybrid-electric models are a key part of our Honda electrification strategy, and sales of the new Civic hybrid will ultimately represent about 40% of Civic sales."

The New 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid
Leading the refreshed 2025 Honda Civic lineup, the new Civic hybrid, available for the first time as both a sedan and hatchback, combines the Civic’s renowned driving dynamics with Honda’s award-winning two-motor hybrid-electric system.
Boasting a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb.-ft. of torque, the new Civic Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid models are the most powerful non-Type R Civics ever produced. The Honda two-motor hybrid system, featuring two robust electric motors, delivers quick, effortless acceleration and exceptional EPA fuel economy ratings, including a 50-mpg city rating for the Civic Sedan Sport and Sport Touring hybrids¹.

Enhancing the Civic’s legendary fun-to-drive character and class-leading ride comfort, the ride and handling dynamics have been optimized with unique spring and damper tuning, along with a specially developed tire for the hybrid model. Hybrid trims also benefit from the quietest and most comfortable cabin in the Civic lineup, thanks to a comprehensive noise reduction package that includes Active Noise Control on all hybrids and wheel resonators on the Sport Touring.
As Honda’s longest-running automotive nameplate and one of the top three best-selling passenger cars in America over the past 52 years², the Civic holds a significant place in automotive history. Since 1973, Honda has sold over 15 million Civics in North America, and the 11th-generation model continues its unparalleled success. Serving as a gateway to the Honda brand, the Civic is America’s most popular vehicle among Gen Z buyers, first-time new car buyers, and multicultural customers³.
Two-Motor Hybrid System by Honda
Honda is celebrating 25 years of hybrid sales in America, beginning with the first-generation Honda Insight, America’s first mass-production hybrid-electric passenger vehicle, in December 1999. The new fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid system powering the Civic hybrid models maximizes efficiency without sacrificing dynamic performance or passenger and cargo space, resulting in a sportier and more enjoyable driving experience with outstanding fuel economy. Variants of this two-motor hybrid system are also found in the Honda Accord and CR-V, representing over 50% of Accord and CR-V sales. The Honda two-motor hybrid system powering the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback has received accolades for its power, efficiency, and refinement, earning a “Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems” award from WardsAuto for the second consecutive year.
